Yes, I would say that of the Republican lot, the only one who does not make
me want to vomit is Paul. Unfortunately, he will not be elected. I think he
comes from the Libertarian side of the Republican party, as opposed to the
neo-fascist side.

Of the Democrats the one that stands out is Dennis Kucinic. The rest are
vanilla versions of each other (chocolate too, I guess).

On the broad side, though, whoever is elected is beholden to the people who
put him/her in place. So if you vote Republican, you are likely to see
policies favoring big oil, big automobile (though they are not so big any
more), big pharma, gun/weapons manufacturers, etc. If you vote Democratic,
you are likely to see policies favoring environmentalists, unions (primarily
service workers and education, though some automotive), and perhaps trial
lawyers (I say perhaps, because while these guys support the Dems, I doubt
they are that significant beyond the propaganda value).

So, assuming Rep. Paul is not the Republican candidate, your choice is
between:

1. Republican - more war waged and lost, more taxes to support the rich and
the wars, more corruption, government run by lobbyists and industry
insiders, faith groups and military services outsourcing, etc. Oh, I forgot
the gutting of the constitution, Guiliani being able to let you rot as an
illegal combatant for opening a hot-dog stand or a sex business near Times
Square, and the whole world hatings us even more than they do now.

2. Democrat - recognition that we lost Iraq and diverting resources to fight
Al Qaida instead (and maybe the Taliban), money wasted on failed attempts to
rescue our education system and create good jobs in the US, corruption, and
either a female or a black president (assuming neither Gore nor Bloomberg
enter the race at any given point).

What fun. Enjoy.

Z.
