Over the holiday I think I finally found my perfect display.
I wanted to replace the 19" CRT monitor and 19" TV in my room with a single
display that I could use for PC, HD digital cable, and gaming console.
After gobs of research I think I finally found the best one.
It is a BenQ (the company that made dell's lcds now has their own line) FP241W
It's 24" 1920x1200, with good response time, contrast, brightness and best
of all, gobs of input choices, like dvi, composite, component and hdmi
and it's also HDCP compliant(which will be more important in the future
with more and more encrypted digital content and may be a problem for
us linux folks)
The one drawback is that they messed up and didn't include aspect ratio
scaling in models made before december, so 16:9 or 4:3 is awkwardly
stretched to 16:10. As soon as someone confirms that they have the new firmware
shipped from a reputable online source, I am going to buy one.
newegg and a few other places have them for $800.

I also finally crossed upgrading my home pc off my procrastination list.
I bought all the parts from newegg. They have 500GB SATAII samsung spinpoint
hard drivess for only $150, now! Terabytes of space are finally in easy range. :)
