it is to me. as a stepping stone to meet folks who are of like mind face 
to face!
sure i could converse with the developers of wmaker on the west coast, 
but i am not gonna jump on a plane and go visit them and bring my 
children for them to play with theirs...ect and so forth. i have met 
many folks who i find interesting. take the crew of "crystalspace"<3D> 
but i am not going to go to amsterdam anytime soon just to have a beer 
with them
