I just tried in a recent Debian installation and I was able to open the
document, but not lock it. Most of my installs are Fedora, or Centos and
these are the units OO will not open from the win server. Unless there
is a way to open the remote file after opening a copy of OO, the only
way I see is to double click the file which triggers OO in this case. I
will take a look at a plain text file and see what happens.
