Larry,
What version of RHEL?
Cent OS defaults to YUM, and YUM can be installed on RHEL.
Additionally, I don't think that you need RPM's to update modules from
PECL/PEAR.
Depending upon your distro, you should be able to just type "pear
install <package>"
see: pear.php.net and pecl.php.net
