That would work, but it does not even require that. You could have per
workstation shares or the aforementioned single server share that is setup with
rights from a local (Windows side account) smb mounts can be authenticated.
Things like smbtar and smbclient can also use auth; be it local, or
centralized; Windows AD or some other LDAP or evne NIS with SFU. Lots and lots
of options here. Keep and open mind and do whatever is best for you. My only
strong suggestion is to manage as much of your env from a UNIX based OS as
automation will be 10X easier and future changes will also be 10X easier.
