[Linux] FreeGeek or ByteWorks in South FL?

The FreeGeek and Bworks programs look very interesting. But looking
at the Wikipedia link provided I see that it's a huge operation ...
BWorks has an 11 member board, constant need for trainers to teach
people, etc. The same is probably true of FreeGeek.
Once again, South Florida does not have the volunteer base to sustain
a program of that size over the long term.
Also, what happens once we all empty our closets of old PCs? Now you
need people to start contacting businesses for their cast-offs ... and
that can only be done during business hours. If the flow of old
computers stops, so does the program. And companies that donate won't
ship or deliver the PCs. Somebody with a truck will have to drive
there and pick them up. Time consuming and labor intensive. Oh, and
it too will have to be done during business hours.
These things take a huge amount of time and effort. It would be
irresponsible to start a project of this scale without the ability to
keep it going.
I'll suggest once again the idea of starting small with achievable
goals: an annual or semi-annual advocacy event that does not require
a long term commitment. If that works well, we can slowly scale up
and find the point where people are still enthusiastic but not
overloaded.
