[Linux] FreeGeek or ByteWorks in South FL?

Yes, FLUX has been here for nearly 10 years now. That is proof that
we've been lucky enough to get one person per month to volunteer to do
a talk (something that is increasingly difficult to do, by the way).
Beyond that there's not much maintenance required, so it is a very
different situation from running a program such as the one benig
discussed here.
As for the rest of your points, remember that almost all Linux users
these days fall into one of two categories: Either they are computer
enthusiasts (aka geeks, etc) or they work in companies with highly
controlled I.T. environments where they use the Linux desktop for a
small number of specialized activities.
Yes, if you give Linux boxes to computer enthusiasts they will use
Google and solve most of their own problems. But the people we have
been talking about here don't fall into that category. Unlike the
typical FLUX member, most people just want to get stuff done when they
use a computer ... write a term paper, chat online, etc. And when
they screw it up, they take it to Best Buy or wherever they bought it
and pay to have it fixed. There is a huge, humongous support
infrastructure out there for people who use Windows and can pay for
the support.
This project, on the other hand, is aimed at people who do not use
Windows and who could not afford to pay for support.
We don't mind spending our time dinking with computers ... that's why
we are here. But we are not the ones this kind of project would be
aimed at.
