A quick summary of each:

FreeGeek: volunteer to build 6 refurbished machines and keep the 6th.

ByteWorks: under-served youth are awarded a refurbished machine after
completing the Earn-a-Computer program.

In both programs, the machines are installed with Linux.

Nice. What OS, distro, and games did you put on the box? How did you
select your recipients?

Ditto. I also have a lot of "junk" that could probably be put to better
use. A Google of the area for electronics recyclers produced these hits:

http://www.alliedelectronicstrading.com/
http://www.escrapusa.com/

They could potentially be a source for usable parts and destination for
not so usable parts.
