It works in linux (supposedly, I've only used it on windows), and this 
add-on supposedly adds iPod device support (direct play, library sync, 
and more I guess):

Mind you, you won't be able to play Apple DRM'd stuff (whatever.m4p), 
but everything else should work, provided you've installed all the right 
libraries and supporting tools.
