Thanks, I checked it out, and indeed I already have it installed and
can use it to take a screenshot. It is just hidden in a strange place
on the menus, and not in the graphics applications.

I like scrot, though - I can run it directly from the command line,
without the need to use gnome. Maybe there is also a way to do the
same with the gnome utility, I will investigate it later.
