[Linux] dialup modem hangs up after PPPoE to BS

Do you have only one phone line? Did BellSouth put in filters so that the
DSL use of the phone line was separated from the DSL?

Did you get the filter installation right?

It sure sounds like maybe you didn't and the DSL is bleeding over to the
modem line.
