[Linux] SuSE 7 Pro partition weirdness...

Nope, you got it backwards. The drive is reporting 8 primaries and that =
causes the fdisk in SuSE to segfault. I tried partition magic and that =
doesn't help. I 'm having the drive swapped out as it is useful for a =
non-SuSE environment.

  You may (I hope) have figured it out already.  If not, and if I =
understand the problem correctly, this may help:

  You want 8+ partitions, but can only have 4 logical partitions.  No =
problem.

  The main point to keep in mind is that you have to make (at least) one =
very large logical partition into which you will nest the extended =
partitions.  Also, IIRC, swap must be logical.  So for example,

  hda1            swap            100M
  hda2            /               4 G
  hda3                            10G
  hda4            reserved for future or whatever

  Using Yast this is not hard to do.

      I found a good freeware dos partitioning program that allowed me =
to fix my partition type in Windows 98 after a fdisk /MBR wiped it out. =
Easiest way to find it is to do a "yahoo" search for "ranish".


      See what it reports. I hope this helps.
