It has been my experience that when windows assigns COM4 or COM5 to the
modem, it is usually a win-modem. I have a few win-modems that did not
say "win-modem" or "For use with MS Windows Only" on the box or in the
literature. I would think that the USR Modem would specify that, but they
do make some PCI modems that do not have "win-modem" in their name or
description in the Contrl Panel. You may want to look up the documentation
for your model on their website to be sure. Remember, Linux does not
support win-modems.

Good Luck,

Rob.
