Job Description:
The Engineer will be a member of the software engineering group and function primarily to support software development activities on Ubuntu Linux workstations, maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems for robot assisted surgery and maintain Ubuntu Linux servers housing web-based development tools. On a daily basis the Engineer will take managerial direction to work and interact with IT staff, the Software Quality Assurance staff, the System Integration Team, the Robot Development Team, the Customer Support Team and others. The Engineer will also own the application product installers and produce versions for new releases.


Responsibilities:

 *   Support Red Hat Enterprise Linux application development
 *   Support field staff in maintenance of  Red Hat Enterprise Linux based products
 *   Support software developers in maintenance of Ubuntu workstations
 *   Administer, maintain and upgrade web-based development tools such as Bugzilla, Subversion, CodeStriker, ViewVC, etc...
 *   Maintain and produce custom product installers
 *   Automate routine activities through bash or other scripting language
 *   Coordinate with IT staff on server and network administrative duties
 *   Support IT staff in server backup activities
 *   Set up and maintain Ethernet/TCP networks on an as-needed basis
 *   Work with other departments in identifying root causes of problems and potential solutions
 *   Ensure the integrity and security of company intellectual property and confidential data
 *   Comply with ongoing training requirements

Qualifications:

 *   5+ years of professional Linux system administration experience
 *   3+ years of professional Red Hat Enterprise Linux system administration
 *   2+ years of professional Ubuntu/Debian Linux system administration
 *   Bachelor in Computer Science or related field (or additional four years of professional Linux system administration experience and certification required)
 *   Excellent written and verbal communication skills
 *   Strong interpersonal skills
 *   Ability to develop documentation on a timely basis for administrative processes and automated tasks
 *   Strong bash shell scripting skills
 *   Experience with PHP web development and mysql administration
 *   Scripting skills in Tcl/Tk, Python, PERL, Ruby or other suitable language
 *   Experience with and understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP and related protocols (ARP, RARP, ICMP, DNS, DHCP, FTP, SMTP, IMAP4, HTTP, etc...)
 *   Ability to set up and maintain Ethernet networks, including network devices (routers, switches, etc...) and endpoints
 *   Demonstrated analytical problem solving ability
 *   Superior time management and organizational skills
 *   Ability and desire to learn new skills quickly
 *   Red Hat Certified Engineer preferred
 *   Ubuntu Certified Professional preferred
 *   CCNA (or better) a plus
 *   Some Windows and SQLServer administration skills a plus
 *   Exposure to Agile Software Development a plus
 *   Professional training on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules a plus
