Background
US Digital Television (USDTV) offers consumers in its service areas a
multi-channel TV service that consists of 12 of the most popular cable
channels (Disney, Discovery, ESPN, etc.) plus all local broadcast DTV
stations in DVD quality and at a price that is approximately half the
cost of local basic/expanded cable services. USDTV has grown its
subscriber base to 10,000 in less than 12 months of operation.
USDTV's Set Top Box can also provide customers with their local
broadcast TV stations in High Definition quality (HDTV). Consumers sign
up for service at Wal-Mart or other retailers and also through direct
sales. Customers can install the system themselves, or they are offered
a professional installation option that includes the installation of an
indoor, attic, or rooftop VHF/UHF antenna.

Job Summary
USDTV has an open position for a Security Architect/Developer.
Responsibilities include:
* The designing, architecture, and implementation of end-to-end
security for STB applications (Conditional Access (CA), Digital Video
Recorder (DVR), Video-on-Demand (VOD), Pay-per-View (PPV) movies and
other services)
* Working with the architecture team to drive the specification and
implementation of new system modules including the security architecture
for the hardware and system software
* You will work with the architecture team to drive the specification
and implementation of new system modules including the security
architecture for the hardware and system software, then continue
involvement in all security aspects of the system through to deployment
* Helping establish guidelines and best practices for implementing
security policies and solutions
* Conducting threat / risk assessments to the systems used to deliver
the Digital TV services and/or otherwise recommend measures to mitigate
these risks
* Auditing existing systems, leading awareness training activities,
and making security recommendations through internal security consulting.
Qualifications
Working in a small team, the candidate must be a team player and be
flexible. Strong technical skills are important, as is the ability to
work flexibly and take the initiative.
You should have knowledge and experience in security standards
(authentication, authorization, and encryption), digital rights
management (DRM), and secure coding practices. You should also have
expertise in cryptographic system implementations (e.g. PKI, asymmetric,
symmetric, SSL, AES, 3DES) as well as in system security. Experience of
OS hardening, deploying secured applications, anti-virus, host-based
software firewalls is a plus.
You are the ideal candidate if:
* you are an experienced Software Engineer
* you have experience with CA and/or DRM for set-top boxes or PVRs
* you have a minimum of 10 years working experience in technical
software development including at least 3 years in real time embedded
software
* you are well-versed in various aspects and components of the
security infrastructure, including real-time intruder detection, managed
security services, firewalls, DMZs, TCP/IP, cryptography and all
security protocols and technologies
* you have specific experience in securing web servers, operating
systems, database servers and the deployment of PKI and data center
operations
* you are familiar with the Linux operating system
* you have an expertise in C and/or C++
* you have a good hands-on knowledge of hardware
* you have experience in modern internetworking - both from hardware
and software point of view
* you are able to communicate fluently in English
* you have integrity and enthusiasm
