Background
US Digital Television (USDTV) offers consumers in its service areas a
multi-channel TV service that consists of 12 of the most popular cable
channels (Disney, Discovery, ESPN, etc.) plus all local broadcast DTV
stations in DVD quality and at a price that is approximately half the
cost of local basic/expanded cable services. USDTV has grown its
subscriber base to 10,000 in less than 12 months of operation.
USDTV's Set Top Box can also provide customers with their local
broadcast TV stations in High Definition quality (HDTV). Consumers sign
up for service at Wal-Mart or other retailers and also through direct
sales. Customers can install the system themselves, or they are offered
a professional installation option that includes the installation of an
indoor, attic, or rooftop VHF/UHF antenna.

Job Summary
USDTV has open positions for Software Engineers. Responsibilities include:
* The development of system and application software for Set Top Box
and DTV head-end applications (Electronic Program Guide (EPG), Digital
Video Recorder (DVR), Video-on-Demand (VOD), Pay-per-View (PPV) movies
and other services)
* Taking assigned software modules through the entire development
process, including: working on architecture and design with the
architecture team; implementation (coding and debugging); development
of unit tests with the test engineering team and system tests with the
QA team; and maintenance and enhancements after deployment
* Analyzing third-party software technologies to assist with "make
vs. buy" decisions, and work on integrating chosen technologies into the
STB and/or head-end systems
Qualifications
Working in a small team, the candidate must be a team player and be
flexible. Strong technical skills are important, as is the ability to
work flexibly and take the initiative.
You are the ideal candidate if:
* you are an experienced Software Engineer
* you have software development experience in some of the following
areas: DTV systems, video/audio codecs, embedded systems, Linux
kernel/device drivers, user interfaces, system and data security
* you have a minimum of 5 years working experience in Linux/UNIX
software development
* you are familiar with the Linux operating system
* you have expertise in C and/or C++
* you have a good hands-on knowledge of hardware
* you are able to communicate fluently in English
* you have integrity and enthusiasm
