Since I had posted earlier about missing some messages from the list, I
thought I had better chime in and reassure you that the problem in my
case was not with the listserver. Apparently my In Box had maxed out at
50MB and I was receiving new mail only as I deleted old mail!
But today, after looking again at the archive for a lost "poll" message,
I conclude that *this* case is a simple problem in human communication:
Larry's poll was contained in his proposal of Mar 17
http://www.flux.org/pipermail/cert/2006-March/000010.html which included
a schedule etc., at the conclusion of which he asked if we concurred
with his plan. This message was part of a thread started by Carl C and
relabeled by Kwan, so it may have received less attention not being at
the head of a thread. See
http://www.flux.org/pipermail/cert/2006-March/thread.html#start
I guess I was expecting Larry's plan to be adopted and, only then, for
him to follow up with a message formally labelled "poll". But then
that's probably a bit legalistic of me :)
The moral of it all is that it's better to err on the side of
overcommunication rather than risk undercommunication.
Also, for whenever you find yourself discouraged by a group's interest,
let me paraphrase Hanlan's Razor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon's_Razor:
John's Razor:
"Never attribute to apathy or disinterest that which is adequately
explained by a failure to understand what was communicated."
So we are all here (in cyberspace at least) and interested and engaged.
(I'm sure Carl will check in as soon as he reads his next digest. :)
Revised revised roster (compiled by me and based solely on the posts
I've seen on the list):
-Larry Kagan
-Kwan Lowe
-Carl Couric
-Lou Yovin
-Michael Roach
-Adam Glass
-John Hicks
I think Adam has said he is here ex officio and may not be fully
participating. I am in Kentucky for a number of months and will be
unable to attend any meetings (unless maybe by Skype?), so I can be
classified as a (rather vocal) lurker and don't believe I should vote in
the poll.
That leaves 5 core members. It would be better to have ten of course,
since there will be weeks when only half will show up.
But five is nice and will suffice. :)
