The FLUX Library

Library The FLUX library is a collection of Linux-related technical books donated by publishing companies and individuals. At the time of the library's start in February 2004, there are just over 50 books available. The library is freely available to anyone who attends our meetings, no library card required!

The Librarian!
Ronnie Glasscock has volunteered to be the FLUX Librarian! Chad Labno will be Ronnie's backup when he is out of town. Many thanks to Ronnie and Chad!

How to check out a book:
Since the books are not stored at the meeting location, they are requested in advance by sending e-mail to the FLUX librarian. The librarian will bring the book to the next monthly meeting, and you return it at the following meeting. Meetings are almost always held the second Thursday each month at Nova Southeastern University.

  1. Find a title of interest in the collection
  2. Make sure it has not already been requested by someone else
  3. Write e-mail to librarian@flux.org. In the message body include the book number and your telephone number

That's it! The librarian will reply to let you know that the book will be ready for you at the next regular FLUX meeting.

Help the library grow!
Donations of useful Linux and computer science books are happily accepted! We cannot offer a tax writeoff but the FLUX library can be a good home for books you no longer need. We will list your name as donor in our book list as a thank-you!

Write a book review!
If you would like to summarize a book you have borrowed, we can post your summary on the FLUX site for others to see. That will help other members know if a particular book will suit their needs. Please send reviews in plain text format to adam@usdtv.com.

Additionally some publishing companies occasionally offer user groups free books in exchange for having a group member review the book and post the review on our site. If you would like to volunteer for this please send e-mail to adam@usdtv.com

Please be courteous!
Like much of the Linux community, the library survives by trusing those who borrow the books. Please be sure to attend both the meeting at which you are to receive the book and the following one to return it. Someone else may have requested the book after you. If you are unable to attend one meeting or the other please notify the librarian as soon as possible. We will try to help you return the book to a backup location before its due date.

Please also treat the library books with care. Please do not write in them, remove pages from them, or turn page corners down. Please protect the books from food, liquid, smoke, pets, etc. If you lose or destroy a book please purchase another copy to replace it.

Enjoy the FLUX Library!
